Chapter 6: Awakening and Acceptance

Saba’s eyes fluttered open, finding herself back in the cluttered apartment she shared with Maya. The vivid dreamscape faded into the muted tones of reality, reminding her how life, like small moral stories in English, sometimes holds hidden lessons. She blinked, disoriented, wondering if she could make sense of what she had just experienced.

A sudden cramp in her abdomen made her wince. She glanced down and noticed a small red stain spreading across her pajama bottoms. Realization hit her, and she let out a shaky breath. “My period,” she whispered, feeling a mix of disappointment and relief—just like the twists one might expect in small moral stories in English.

Maya stirred from the chair beside the bed, her voice laced with concern. “Saba! You’re awake! How are you feeling?”

Saba struggled to gather her thoughts. “I… I’m not sure,” she admitted, her voice trembling. “I had the most vivid dream, and I thought…” Her words trailed off, leaving Maya with an expression that mirrored the moral ambiguity often seen in small moral stories in English.

Maya reached out and squeezed Saba’s hand. “It’s okay. You’re safe now. I was worried—you’ve been sleeping for hours.”

“I’m sorry, Maya. I didn’t mean to scare you,” Saba murmured. Her eyes drifted to the open sketchbook on the bedside table, filled with hazy drawings: a forest, a crib, and a pregnant figure. Memories of her journey through the dreamlike forest rushed back.

“The Spirit…” Saba whispered, tracing the lines in the sketchbook. “It was like one of those guiding characters in small moral stories in English. It made me confront my fears.”

Maya leaned closer, her concern deepening. “Your fears? What do you mean?”

Saba took a deep breath. “I’ve been scared, Maya. Scared of growing up, of being a mother, of not being good enough. The Spirit showed me visions of my future, and I felt so overwhelmed. I thought I was going into labor.” Her voice faltered, tears welling in her eyes.

Maya wrapped her arms around Saba. “I’m sorry you went through that alone.” Her comforting presence reminded Saba of the supportive friendships often portrayed in small moral stories in English.

Wiping her tears, Saba looked down at the stain on her pajamas, managing a bittersweet smile. “I guess I’m not pregnant after all.”

Maya returned the smile with understanding. “That must have been a lot to process. But you’re not alone in this. I’ll be with you every step of the way.”

Saba nodded. “I know, and I’m grateful. But I need to address the anxiety I’ve been feeling. I can’t keep running from my fears.”

“You’re right,” Maya said softly. “Facing fears head-on is the best way to grow. Just like how small moral stories in English teach us important lessons.”

Saba smiled through her tears. “Exactly. I think it’s time I see a therapist. I need to learn how to balance my dreams with the responsibilities of adulthood.”

Maya gave her hand an encouraging squeeze. “That’s a great decision, Saba. I’ll support you, just like the wise mentors in small moral stories in English who guide others toward the right path.”

With Maya by her side, Saba felt a sense of relief wash over her. The road ahead would not be easy, but she knew she could find the strength to walk it. The moral of her experience was becoming clearer: fear loses its power when confronted with courage and support.

As the sun set, casting a warm glow over the room, Saba looked at Maya with renewed hope.

“Let’s do this, Maya. Together.”
